Note : The Plainsman Restaurant on Hwy5, 2 miles West of Highway 6 in Dundas, Ontario has been arranged as the permanent dinner meeting location of the Sec 0400 for the 2002 / 2003 session. Charge for the dinner and the presentation is currently $25.00, with a cash bar.

The October membership meeting will present Jim Phillips (General Manager - Purchasing, Honda Canada Manufacturing Inc.). Jim will be speaking on "Honda's Philosophy, Innovation, Manufacturing, Sourcing Requirements".
Mr. Phillips is currently the General Manager of Purchasing for Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM) at Honda's operations in Alliston, Ontario. He is responsible for the overall purchasing organization as well as supplier quality management.
HCM was established in 1986 and operates two plants in Alliston, Ontario producing the Honda 4 door Civic, Acura EL, Honda Odyssey Minivan and the Acura MD-X. In addition, HCM has started production on the all new Honda Pilot, an eight passenger Sport Utility Vehicle. HCM's current volume is 360,000 units per year, which includes vehicles for the Canadian and US markets, as well as exports to Japan, Middle East, and to South America. Honda currently employs approximately 4,000 associates at its Alliston facility.
Prior to joining HCM, Mr. Phillips held various management positions in Accounting, Engineering, and Purchasing at TRW Canada Inc. in St. Catherines, Ontario. He joined HCM in 1996 and was appointed General Manager in 1999.

ASQ Hamilton Section 0400 - News Items
1)The Section hands out a number of Awards every year and here are the details of who received our awards this year.
The Victor Dobrin Memorial Award ($250):
This was a one-time award in memory of our colleague Victor.
The recipient was Mr. Mike Tesone. Mike was a 4th semester Industrial Engineering Technician who did well in his quality related courses and was a hard worker.
The American Society for Quality Award: (2 awards @ $500 each):
One of the recipients was Mr. Robert Castaldi. Robert was a 4th semester Industrial Engineering Technician who excelled in his quality related courses and also helped other students in his class.
The second recipient was Mr. Colen Schell, a 5th semester Industrial Engineering - Management student. Colen had excellent grades in his quality-related courses.
2)The Section would also like to recognize the achievements of some of its members listed below for their successful attainment of ASQ designations during 2001 and 2002 :
