The Plainsman Restaurant on Hwy5, 2 miles West of Highway 6 in Dundas, Ontario has been arranged as the permanent dinner meeting location of the Sec 0400 for the 2001 / 2002 session. Charge for the dinner and the presentation is currently $20.00, with a cash bar.

Our speaker for the meeting will be Claire Bentzen-Bilkvist, Director of Manufacturing The Hamilton Spectator. Claire is a Chartered Accountant and also holds an MBA from McMaster University. She was the controller at the Spectator since 1990. Her current responsibilities include the operations of the pressroom, mailroom, prepress and maintenance departments.

The Spectator runs two shifts, six days per week. The production departments employ over two hundred staff including machinists, electricians, press journeymen, mailroom journeymen and unskilled labour. The Hamilton Spectator has a circulation of around 108,000 and prints the National Post and the Brantford Expositor as Commercial Print products.

In 1999 The Spectator started on the road to becoming the first ISO registered daily Newspaper in North America. Claire was responsible for the ISO project to ensure certification, In January 2001, in their first attempt to pass certification, the Spectator was successful in achieving ISO 9002 registration.

Claire's presentation will deal with the topic of "ISO 9000 enters the newspaper industry with The Hamilton Spectator leading the way for Canada".
